Protect Sierra National Forest from ORVs

The Sierra National Forest is an outdoor lover's paradise with stunning mountain scenery, abundant fish and wildlife, and a wealth of recreational opportunities. This forest is nothing short of spectacular, and deserves our highest protection. Unfortunately, the forest is considering designating trails in Roadless Areas for off-road vehicle use.

Take action and tell the Sierra National Forest Supervisor you want these wild places preserved! The comment deadline is soon - Monday, December 3.

Subject: Protect Sierra National Forest from ORVs

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to express my opposition to the Proposed Action (Notice of Intent of September 14) to designate motorized trails in several Roadless Areas on the forest.

As a national forest user, I enjoy quiet, undisturbed areas and avoid areas frequented by off-road vehicles, as they kick-up clouds of dust, fill entire drainages with noise, damage wildlife habitat, and degrade water quality.

Non-motorized areas are sources of clean drinking water and wonderful backcountry recreation, including hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. They provide an opportunity to connect with nature and a welcome relief from the sights and sounds of motorized activities. These wild places offer safe harbor for vanishing and imperiled fish and wildlife species and a source of tranquility for the human spirit.

The Sierra National Forest is important to me. I am concerned about the preservation of its unique natural values. Allowing motorized use in these last remaining wildlands will seriously threaten important forest values and reduce the recreational opportunities for quiet recreationists like myself.

I request that you not designate any trails for motorized travel in Inventoried Roadless Areas on the Sierra National Forest, including the following: Star Lakes, Iron Lakes, Cattle Mountain, Green Mountain, Mirror Lakes, Strawberry Lake, Coyote Lake, Swamp Lake, and Spanish Lake.

Sincerely,

Campaign Launched:
