Applaud Congress for Holding the Line on Arctic Refuge Drilling
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge survived many attacks during the 110th Congress. No fewer than 24 drilling proposals were put forward, and each time, supporters like you urged Congress to continue to protect the Refuge. Thanks to you, Congress refused to capitulate to the demands of Big Oil. Now it's very important for the Refuge that Congress knows how important their actions were to Americans and how thankful we are that they kept this national treasure safe from drilling. Please take a few moments to thank Congress for keeping the Refuge - and the more than 250 species that call it home - safe from oil and gas development. Congress will be leaving Washington this week and need to hear from you today. Edit and send the letter below.
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , As the 110th Congress prepares to adjourn, I am writing to thank you and all the other members of this Congress for continuing to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas drilling. I know that the pressures to drill have been great, especially during the "Drill Here, Drill Now" furor of this past summer's high gas prices. But I am grateful that this Congress held the line and refused to allow drilling in the Refuge - a place that is, quite simply, too wild to drill. The Refuge is an incomparable resource that we have promised to protect for our children and grandchildren. It is home to more than 250 species, and is sacred to the Gwich'in people, whose subsistence culture has depended on the Refuge's resources for thousands of years. Once this special place is lost to oil and gas development, it will be lost forever. Like most Americans, I am concerned about our energy future. But I also believe that the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge should remain protected, off limits to oil and gas exploration and development. I am grateful that the 110th Congress kept this national treasure safe.
Sincerely, |
