Thank you for the opportunity to submit comments on the Mt. Hood travel plan. The Mt. Hood National Forest is extremely popular among hikers, horse riders and other quiet recreationists. I support Alternative 4 as it is the alternative that best protects the quiet, natural experiences the majority of people seek when visiting the forest.

Mt. Hood National Forest is visited by hundreds of thousands of quiet, non-motorized recreationists annually. With so many visits and being just outside the Portland metropolitan area, the Forest Service should be managing this forest for the experiences the majority of people seek when recreating here. The Vista Ridge Trail, close to the proposed Bear Creek OHV emphasis zone, is just one example of a popular hiking trail that would be negatively impacted by this Plan. To reduce impacts on popular areas for quiet recreation, I urge the Forest Service to choose Alternative 4.

Lastly, I am concerned about the Forest Service not including an analysis its road system as a part of this planning process. The Forest Service must undertake a broad scale, science based assessment of all of its 3,500 miles of roads that spread across the forest in order to identify and close those that are unnecessary and no longer needed. The Mt. Hood National Forest's road system impairs water quality, degrades fish and wildlife habitat, and is completely unaffordable. The Forest Service must act swiftly and get serious about restoring Mt. Hood National Forest by addressing its massive, outdated road system.
