Recently, the Senate took an important first step by introducing new, clean energy jobs legislation. The Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act (S. 1733) will create nearly two million new jobs and help America regain control of its energy future. The bill limits greenhouse gases and provides funding for resource managers to protect our wild lands from climate change.

As Senate committees prepare to mark up S. 1733, they will face intense pressure to weaken or defeat the bill from opponents who have a huge financial stake in our dirty-energy status quo. Write your Senators today to urge them to pass a strong bill that includes strict limits on greenhouse gases and funding to protect our natural resources.

I am writing as your constituent to urge your support for S. 1733, the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act, introduced by Sens. Kerry and Boxer on September 30. This legislation is urgently needed, and the world is waiting for your leadership in passing this strong energy and climate bill.

The Clean Energy Jobs Act will improve our national security by reducing America's dependence on foreign oil and investing in clean, renewable, American-made energy. It will help our economy by creating nearly 2 million made-in-America jobs - many of them in rural communities hard-hit by the recession.  And it will protect our treasured wild lands from the inevitable impacts of climate change by providing the funding resource managers need to help our national parks, wildlife refuges, and forests remain resilient in a warming world.

Please support S. 1733, and reject any amendments that would weaken its limits on the greenhouse gases that cause global warming. In addition, I urge you to support dedicating 5% of the bill's allowance value to helping our nation's forests, parks, rivers, oceans and other wild lands survive and thrive. These resources are important not only to wildlife, but to human health too, providing clean air and pure water, and helping capture and store global warming pollution while creating jobs across the country.
