The short explanation of this alert was:

Before leaving office, the Bush administration launched an aggressive oil and gas development plan in the Arctic Ocean, without the necessary science and with no regard to the impacts.

The good news is the Obama Administration has placed a hold on that plan, recognizing the need for more scientific study.

Please ask Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to honor his pledge to "make wise decisions based on sound information" by not only taking a comprehensive, science-based approach to the new development proposed in the Arctic Ocean, but also to apply that same precautionary and science-based approach to other controversial and inadequate planning that has taken place across Arctic coastal waters.
