The short explanation of this alert was:
Pro-drilling members of Congress, led by Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) have attached Arctic Refuge drilling to the unrelated Defense funding bill. The bill also includes funds for states recovering from hurricane Katrina. This legislation has passed the House and must be stopped in the Senate.
We have only a matter of hours now before the fate of the Arctic Refuge is decided in the Senate. Calls to your Senators would be best (202-224-3121) but if you cannot call, please send a strongly worded message to them.
